When the battle is long and the nights feel endless, what carries you through?
After a routine surgery turns into a life-threatening medical crisis, Susan Ferguson finds herself facing thirty-one days in the hospital – filled with pain, uncertainty, and unexpected setbacks. What begins as a straightforward recovery quickly becomes a journey through complications, multiple hospital stays, and moments when hope feels out of reach.
But in the midst of the struggle, something powerful emerges. Through worship music, Scripture, and the steady presence of Christ, Susan discovers a deeper faith – one not built on circumstances, but on the unchanging character of God. Each day is paired with a song that becomes an anchor in the storm, transforming fear into trust, waiting into worship, and suffering into surrender.
Discover how worship can steady your heart, renew your hope, and draw you closer to the One who holds you fast.

1 review for Songs in the Night
As I was reading this book, I was thinking of people in my life who this book could encourage. I have a family member about to undergo open heart surgery, a friend who is chronically ill, etc.
I think the most important message in this book is to look to Jesus. Whether that be through Scripture and song, look to Him. I heard somewhere that self-pity is one of the worst sins because it is in essence idolatry. When we are looking to self, we aren’t looking at God. If we aren’t looking to God, we are worshipping ourselves because we are looking inward. For that reason, what the author shares here shows that she recognizes this and makes the concerted effort to worship God amidst her pain and difficulty. As the hymn says, “Turn your eyes onto Jesus, look full into His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.”
