Till He Come brings together some of Charles H. Spurgeon’s most tender and spiritually searching meditations on the Lord’s Supper. Drawn from addresses delivered at the Metropolitan Tabernacle and also in smaller gatherings around the communion table, these messages invite believers to linger and renew their love and devotion for Christ in remembrance of His atoning sacrifice.
Spurgeon leads readers into the heart of Christian communion – reflecting on Christ’s love, His finished work, and the believers’ fellowship with Him “until the day breaks and the shadows flee away.” Whether speaking of resting under the shadow of the Almighty, our Lord’s loveliness, or the redemption we have because of His selfless sacrifice, Spurgeon masterfully expounds on the endless depth and breadth of Christ’s love and character as displayed through His broken body and poured-out blood.
These short sermons are especially suited for personal devotion, preparation for the Lord’s Table, or for those entrusted with leading others in communion. Reverent, Christ-centered, and moving, Till He Come stands as one of Spurgeon’s most precious devotional works – calling believers to remember their Savior, cherish His presence, and proclaim His death and resurrection until the day He returns for His chosen.

1 review for Till He Come
Spurgeon is so very quotable that it is a joy to read what he writes and says. He has the unique penchant for putting words in a certain order that makes them “speak” more than what they would if spoken with our normal placement of words. This particular collection of sermons were given in conjunction with the ordinance of communion. I love the variety of topics and how they were brought to shine light on our communion with God. While I could say something about each and every one of them, I choose to focus on the address entitled, “Communion with Christ and His People.” This is because I believe he does a spectacular job of bringing out how beautiful our relational communion with our Lord can be.
In this sermon, Spurgeon elaborates on what it is like to have communion with our Lord and also, with our brothers and sisters in Christ. He describes our communion with Christ this way, “What sweet communion often exists between the saint and the Well-beloved when there is no bread and wine upon the table! The Spirit Himself draws the renewed heart, and it runs after Jesus, while the Lord discloses Himself to the longing spirit! Truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3).”
He continues on by acknowledging the communion we have with Christ in our emotions. “Have you never felt, as you looked upon sinners, that you must weep over them? Those are holy tears and contain the same ingredients as those Jesus shed when He lamented over Jerusalem (Luke 19:41).” Upon reading this, I had to ask myself, do I love Christ so much that I would want those around me to have that same relationship/communion with Him, too? Do I care enough to weep for them? Do you?
Spurgeon goes on to speak of our relationship with the family of God this way, “Our Beloved is not a Friend for the Lord’s Day only but for weekdays as well – the inseparable Companion of those who love Him. Those who have had fellowship with His body and blood at this table may welcome Him as an habitual Guest at their own tables; those who have met their Master in this upper room may expect Him to make their own room radiant with His royal presence.
Let fellowship with Jesus and with His redeemed people be from now on the atmosphere of our lives and the joy of our existence. This will give us heaven below and prepare us for heaven above.”
If you desire to have this communion with Jesus; Jesus Himself tells us how to enter into a relationship with Him in Mark 1:15 when He says, “Repent and believe the Good News.” I pray this will be heartfelt prayer today!
