Following God to this remote place seemed like a risk, but it became the “risk that wasn’t” because of the faithfulness of God. An inspiring devotional biography.

I screamed and jumped from the chair to run for cover under our bed’s mosquito netting. Not another night of dive-bomb roaches. One of the epic-sized ugly bugs had launched from the wall and glided toward me. Under the safety of the net’s cover, I would read for the evening. This jungle setting was no place for a wimp, and I needed to toughen up fast.
I didn’t know that trekking through the jungle meant hours of muscle-shredding exhaustion or that our firstborn son would overdose on malaria medicine. Who knew that running water would become a luxury? Nor did I anticipate that malaria chills, flights on small aircraft, and watchful eyes would be a part of everyday life. There was a lot I didn’t know, and that was a good thing.
Along with the challenges, there were wonderful things, too. I learned the joy of listening to a tropical rainstorm on a metal roof, the sweetness of jungle fruits, and the beauty of a life changed by the power of the gospel. Living in extreme isolation would mean the adoption of a little jungle tribe who became our family away from family.
My husband and I were young and zealous, excited for an adventure with God but without knowing all that it would require. Choosing to leave the comfort of my Southern roots, I found myself tossed into a primitive culture where suffering was common, and fear of the spirit world reigned. Following God to this remote place seemed like a risk, but it became the “risk that wasn’t” because of the faithfulness of God.
The bougainvillea – a tropical, vining shrub – displays its magnificent color better in times of drought and intense sun than when grown in the shade or heavily watered. So, too, can our difficulties create something beautiful in our lives. As our faith is forged in God, our transformation mirrors his reflection. Come, join me in a place where no roads go, where challenges and change reveal God’s amazing grace.

“This book will be your ultimate bungee jump into a world very few people can imagine, much less get a chance to experience! I’ve known Carin for over twenty years, and she’s the real thing. Story after riveting story reinforces the basic truth that our lives are tethered to God’s loving care as we pursue his purposes. Where No Roads Go will enrich your walk with God. Even better, read it as a family – episode by episode – and launch your next generation loved ones into God-sized adventures of their own!”
Steve Richardson – President, Pioneers USA
“In Hebrews 11:6 we read, “And without faith it is impossible to please God…” In 2 Corinthians 5:7 we also read, “For we live by faith, not by sight.” The inescapable truth is that faith in God matters. In fact, it’s what matters most to the person who claims to know and follow God. In Where No Roads Go, Carin LeRoy tells a story of where faith in God took her and her family. Hers is a very real story, which includes the difficulties and the challenges that come when one decides to truly live by faith in God and in his leading. It also includes the fact that life in all its fullness is only found in a life lived by faith in God. If it’s your desire to live by faith and not by sight, and to know the fullness of such a life, then Carin’s story will be of great encouragement to you.”

“Where No Roads Go is engaging and informative. The challenges this young missionary couple encountered were great preparations for the ministry where God called them, and the lessons Carin shares will help strengthen our faith and confidence in the Almighty! I strongly recommend this book for spiritual growth.”
Harold Passley – Professor at Lancaster Bible College, Missionary with Adventures in Missions
“Boy, am I impressed with the writing in Where No Roads Go! I am using it for my devotions, and the personal reflection questions add to the stories Carin tells in her book. I can picture each story in my mind and have enjoyed it so much.”

What a treasure into the ‘reality’ of what it means to take the ‘Good News’ to places and people who have never heard the Gospel. After having served the Lord overseas myself for many years, this book was such an inspirational delight in my personal devotions. The ‘short stories’ hit home. I looked up every suggested Scripture and meditated deeply on the privilege of being faithful to God’s call, His message and His using me on a daily basis. Congratulations to Carin. This is a must read for everyone who claims the name of Christ. I’ve ordered quite a few copies for my friends.
I was blessed to read Where No Roads Go. I think it is a book that is badly needed in our Christian world today because of the way these stories make God a part of everything. It is so easy for us to compartmentalize God, and then to think He is not enough when we never allowed Him into ALL the compartments of our lives. These stories were simple snippets of everyday life as a missionary, but they are full of the refreshing truth of God’s Word in principle and practice. As we read of the author’s struggles, the devotional aspect of the book gave good insight in helping the reader ask themselves good questions about their own life. No one might ever understand how difficult the author’s struggles were, but I appreciated her positive spin on everything. I do believe when we see God in our situation and circumstances, He enables us to see the good in all things as from His hand.
There has been a constant trend towards blame shifting and minimizing the need for the things God allows in our live, as if it was all someone else’s fault. This book was a refreshing change from that mindset. Mostly, this book gives a beautiful Romans 8:28 purpose for all those little happenings that happen to us, no matter where where we find ourselves.
