About the Authors
J.A. Johnson and David N. Johnson are both founding members of Genesis College and Seminary, an international ministry serving thousands of students, including incarcerated learners. The two brothers are the coauthors of Investing Wisely, Wounded, Loved and Healed, How to Start a House Church Anywhere and J.A. also coauthored Your Character Matters and Your Preaching Matters. Both are ordained pastors and have experience planting churches, leading congregations, and serving people.

What if we as God’s children served our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ the same way He served His Father? What if we served those people He put in front of us? What if we did it with compassion and with the grace that He will give us if we ask for it? It won’t look like the 5 models endorsed in this book; because it will be more beautiful since it will be what God intended us to do. It will be much more difficult than the 5 models. It will involve many things our flesh isn’t willing to do but our spirit is willing to do out of love for our Lord.
If we look at Christian history we will see that obedience to God in serving those God has put right in front of us does work. Amy Carmichael and Lillian Trasher went to serve as traditional missionaries but ended up rescuing and serving orphans against the advice of other missionaries. Neither had the resume to do this. If either had followed the model placed before them over what God asked them to do, God’s power wouldn’t have been displayed in such miraculous ways for the unsaved to see. We see the same obedience to God, humility and daring to go against the traditional models and methods in the lives of Hudson Taylor, C T Studd, and Lilias Trotter and so many more.
What if we knelt at the feet of Jesus and asked Him what He wants to do with us individually and corporately and waited until He gave us an answer? (It might be a long time!) Isn’t it much easier for our leaders to put their heads together and make a decision about which model fits our culture? However, until we give up all the control to our Heavenly Father, the spiritual blessing won’t be there and neither will lives and hearts be thoroughly changed.
This book has some wonderful advice and quotes. I probably highlighted at least a dozen passages. However, I’m saddened by endorsement of following man’s ministry models.
